Too many Thomases!
I have been looking at the FamilySearch.org. website and other resources to find out where to look for Gothams in Devon, but also to see what I can make of the data there. What is clear is that instead of the commonest names being the usual John (31) and William (15), Thomas comes in second place with 24 entered as individuals on my tree – and it seems to be Thomas that is causing me more problems in trying to work out how the families may be linked.
I’ve noted where I’ve found on a paper map, and made a list of the parishes in the area. I’m starting looking for PR entries in other parishes by seeing which have microfiche copies in the SOG library that I can borrow.
The first I have borrowed is Bishopsteignton. Looking at this parish can help with my family tree as well as my Gotham study, as I had Narramore ancestors who lived there. I did find one nuclear family of Gothams. And you can probably guess what the one baptism was – yes, it was Thomas, son of Thomas!
