The will of Richard Sladden (1671/2-1750)
Richard is a 7 x great grandfather of mine.
Richard named just three beneficiaries, his wife and two surviving children. The latter got nothing at the time of his death, but his properties in Beach Street, Deal when their mother died (had she remarried they would have inherited then). These properties had been left to Richard by his mother, with a stipulation in her will that they should descend to his children. Richard left to his wife to decide which child should inherit the house in which they lived, in Lower Street. Richard clearly escaped the perils of the sea, living to nearly 80. However, his wife was about 9 years younger and lived to 90 so his children had a long wait for any inheritance! (All residue and household goods etc. were left to his wife).
