Notes - Living at 3 The Wall, Sittingbourne at the time of the 1891 census, but by 1899 he had followed in his father's footsteps as a publican, moving a couple of doors to take over the Milton Arms Inn at 7 The Wall, where he remained at the time of the 1901 and 1911 censuses. It was an 8 room house.
By 1911 just Lily and the 3 youngest sons were living at home (Lily helping in the pub).
In 1891 a Ralph Milway had been publican at the Milton Arms; Harry had a third cousin Ralph Milway but as he was only aged 10 in 1891 it must have been another member of the Milway family. The 1913 Post Office Directory shows that "H. W. Goatham" was still in charge, but by the time of the 1918 edition the pub was in the hands of one Charles Newton.
The pub was demolished in 1878 (from the Dead Pubs website)

(Age ~ 72 years) Mother Harriett Pemily EASON, b. Jun Q 1840, Milton next Sittingbourne, Kent, England
, d. 13 Sep 1907, Milton Reg Dist, Kent, England
(Age ~ 67 years) Married 27 Apr 1861 St. Mary’s Church, Chatham, Kent, England
- GRO ref: Goatham, Henry to Eason, Harriett Pemily q2 1861 Medway RD 2a 515
Although the marriage certificate shows both Henry and Harriet as resident in Chatham, Harriet had lived with her family in Flushing Street in Milton, where her mother and siblings were still living in 1861, although by then Harriet had moved to live where she was working, in Chatham. Less than 3 weeks before the wedding Henry was living with a sister and her family in Milton. Perhaps he described himself as living in Chatham to save the need to arrange for banns to be read in Milton.
While Harriet's residence in the parish would have enabled them legally to marry in Chatham, many marriages seemed to take place there where neither of the couple was resident. The large size of the parish and the number of transitory residents due to the dockyard probably made it effectively impossible to check that at least one of a couple was resident (as required by the 1753 Hardwicke Act)
