Details from death registration (GRO register entry)
Grant of Administration 27 Feb 1942 Llandudno, Clwyd, Wales
Calendar entry - "Collins Amy or Goatham or Goathan Amy Mackelden of 25 Peak Hill Sydenham Surrey spinster died 9 January 1941 at Horton Emergency Hospital Epsom Surrey Administration Llandudno 27 February to H.M. Treasury Solicitor.
Effects £382 14s."
Sadly, although Amy was living less than a mile from her brother and sister-in-law, the grant of admon. shows that she died "without any known relation entitled to share in the estate." Her name would have appeared on the bona vacantia list. As her brother died soon after her, and his heir was his wife. If anyone had become aware of Amy's money and had a claim it would have been her sister-in-law Theresa, who herself died in 1944, or Theresa's heir: her brother Frederick, and not Amy's blood relations, her cousins (most of whom predeceased her) or their descendants. Maybe after her thieving episodes it was good that her money went to the Crown! (Going to the Crown does not mean the monarch get's it: the surplus revenue from the estate is paid each year to the Treasury for the benefit of the nation's finances).
Middle name relationship Surname of her mother's friend(?), also Amy was her first name - Amy Macklin als. Mackeldon - In 1861 (before Amy's mother, Elizabeth, married) Amy Macklin was boarding with Elizabeth and her parents. When Amy died in 1873 Elizabeth was her executor. Clearly Amy was well known to Elizabeth but why Elizabeth would give Amy's surname to all of her children is not at present clear. (Amy's will to be seen - it may give a clue)

Notes - Died as a Goatham, and described as a spinster in probate calendar entry, so Amy appears not to have married - but why did she go by the name Collins as well as Goatham?
Maybe to hide her identity after being in trouble with the law?
