    • "Finning Louisa. 13 October. The Will of Louisa Finning late of Coombeinteignhead in the County of Devon Widow who died 29 September 1877 at Coombeinteignhead was proved at Exeter by Lucy Ellen Finning of Coombeinteignhead Spinster the Daughter the sole Executrix.
      Effects under £100."
    Bequest 1884
    £25
    • When her uncle Thomas Efford Issell wrote his will in 1870 he left £25 to his "Niece Lucy Vinning". Should this have been his great niece Lucy, or niece Louisa? I suspect the latter - maybe she was known as Lucy.

The bequest was only to take effect after the death of Thomas's wife, which occured in 1884, by which time Louisa had died so I think it would have gone to her heirs.
"I give and bequeath to my Niece Lucy Vinning the sum of Twenty five pounds"

    Notes
    • Despite the 11 year gap between Lucy and Frederick (as found on the censuses), suggesting there may have been more children who had died or were elsewhere, the index of births on FreeBMD shows only the 3 Finning children born in Newton Abbot Reg. District.

  • Wills (transcripts)
The will of Thomas Efford Issell (1798 – 1874)
The will of Louisa's uncle, Thomas Efford Issell
Louisa was, I think, left £25. The will names her as Lucy, her daughter's name, but describes her as niece not great niece. I suspect either Lucy was used as a pet form of Louisa or was a mistake, given the similarity in sound.
Other bequests to great nephews and nieces name the parent.

This was to have been inherited after the death of Thomas's wife, which occured in 1884, but Louisa pre-deceased her so would not have received the money.
