    • Ironstone mining took place in Rosedale, but the mines were only active for a short while in the 1870s, "Many of the cottages in Rosedale Abbey today, were built for the influx of Ironstone miners. Other than this, very little evidence of the mines survive."

    • GRO ref: Bailey, John to Richardson, Elizabeth Ann N q1 1895 Lanchester RD 10a 377

The 1911 census shows that by then John and Elizabeth had at least 9 children, 4 of whom had died. Two others born after 1911 likely to be theirs were Nora (born 1915) and Henry (born 1917) - the latter confirmed by him being with his widowed father at the time of the 1939 register (whilst there were a number of Bailey families having children around this time in Lanchester Reg Dist, it is unlikely there was another where the mother's maiden name was Richardson).
After these dates, but when Elizabeth was still just young enough to have children, there were Baileys with mother's maiden name Richardson born in Sunderland and Gateshead, but probably different families.

There were more than 4 other children with a mother's maiden name of Richardson born in Lanchester district between 1895 and 1911 than those shown in the 1911 census as children of John and Elizabeth, but only 4 of these appear to have died before 1911, and hence would seem to be the ones who were the chidlren of John and Elizabeth (the others were Mary 1899 and Elizabeth 1902).
