John Thomas (“English Jack”) GOATHAM

-
Name John Thomas (“English Jack”) GOATHAM Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 2 May 1880 Sittingbourne, Kent, England - About April 1880 as age given as 11 months in the 1881 census
GRO ref: GOATHAM, John Thomas q2 1880 Milton RD 2a 869; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Goodson
Born 2nd May - US naturalisation cert shows his dob as 2 May 1877, but date given as 2 May 1880 in birth registration (image of GRO register entry)
Gender Male Education 1891 Scholar Residence 1901 80, West Street, Sittingbourne, Kent, England - Shown in the 1911 census (when his parents were still in the same house) as having 4 rooms.
With his parents, who were shown as with 5 of their sons. Four were, John Thomas and three brothers, but the youngest, 11 year old Walter, was actually the illegitimate son of their daughter Elizabeth, i.e. a nephew of John. (All except John's brother James had left home by 1911)
Occupation 1901 Horse driver in brickfield Emigrated 1910 - A John Tomas (sic) Goatham is listed in Filby's Passenger and Immigration lists index, arriving in Illinois in 1910.
A US naturalisation cert shows his dob as 2 May 1877! Name, date of birth (fits this John Thomas except that he'd gained 3 years) and there seeming to be no other John T(h)omas Goatham, as well as this one disappearing from records in the UK all show it must be this John Thomas who emigrated.
(Whilst I have not thoroughly investigated the German Gothams etc. and could be unaware of a John Thomas there, his nickname of 'English Jack' and his WW2 draft card giving his place of birth as 'Kent', as well as US census entries showing his place of birth as England).
A WW1 draft registration adds weight to this. The date is again shown as 2 May 1877, but next of kin as Mrs H Perkins (sister), resident in Old Kent Road.
Whilst I can't find a sister of John's to fit, his brother and sister-in-law, William Goatham and Louisa, were living in the Old Kent Road at the time of the 1911 census and Louisa's maiden name was Perkins.
Military Service From 1917 Illinois, USA Registered for WW1 draft - If I am right and John Thomas was the one who 'gained' 3 years, then there is a World War I Draft Registration Card for him, showing that he registered in Illinois in 1917
(info. on FMP, from U.S. World War I Draft Registration Cards,1917-1918; starting in 1917, more than 24 million Americans registered for the draft.
Residence 1920 Occupation 1930 Foreman in Amusement Park Died 12 Mar 1962 Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois, USA - From Illinois Death Index (info. on Ancestry, viewed 2 Sep 2015)
