Notes - The Poor Law Records include in the Bredgar papers "William Whitehead the younger, wife Maria, Frank (aged 1), from Bredgar to Stockbury. 26 Oct 1829"
This is marked as a removal, but why when William, Maria and Frank were all born and baptised in Bredgar? Presumably because William had inherited his place of settlement from his father (who was from Stockbury) and had not done anything to acquire Bredgar as his place of settlement.
Bredgar would have wanted to remove William and his family if they were going to require support from the parish; presumably this situation did not arise, as children were baptised in Bredgar in 1830, 1831 and 1833, all of whom are shown in the censuses as born in Bredgar.
William was a widower, living with his dau Agnes and her family at the time of the 1871 census.

Father William WHITEHEAD, b. Abt 1776, Stockbury, Kent, England
, d. Dec 1842, Bredgar, Kent, England
(Age ~ 66 years) Mother Ann PRIOR, b. Abt 1781, Bredgar, Kent, England
, d. Abt 25 Dec 1847, Bredgar, Kent, England
(Age ~ 66 years) Married 11 Oct 1799 St. Mary and St. Sexburga’s Church, Minster, Sheppey, Kent, England
- This William Whitehead and Ann? - I think the evidence is quite convincing, although both William and Ann were shown as of Minster in Sheppey, and while I they could have been working there I have nothing to confirm this. Just under a year later their first child was baptised back in Stockbury where William was from.
Ann's age at death is consistent with the age suggested by Ann Prior's baptism.
But most convincing is that a number of members of the Prior and especially the Whitehead family married in Minster. In addition, 2 of Williams siblings married 2 of Ann's.
Neither of these couples married at the same time, but a couple who would appear to be Ann Prior's brother John and his bride married on the same day in Minster. They too were shown as of Minster, but their first child, also baptised the following September, was baptised in Bredgar (where the Priors were baptised).
