Basil BECON
Set As Default Person -
Name Basil BECON Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 27 Nov 1663 St. Mary’s Church, Lenham, Kent, England
- From PR entry (image on microfilm, viewed at the CCA, 19 July 2016)
On p. 104 is a heading 'Borne Births and Christnings' - in left margin between 'Aprill 3' and 'May 29' 1660 is written 'Christnings', indicating the return from recording births to Baptisms.
For some reason some of the same baptisms are recorded twice, on both p.105 and p.106, including that of Basil.
On p.105: "Nob:r 27 Bazil the son of Theodore Beccone" - under headings 'Christnings' and 'Anno dni: 1663'
On p.106: "Novemb the 27 Bazzell the sonne of Theodore Becon And his wiffe" - under headings 'Christenings' and 'Anno Doni 1663'

Notes - Until now (5 Jul 2011) I have accepted what others have suggested - that Basil was the son of Thomas, gent. of Waltham - without question. But I now notice that a Bazil Beacon was baptised in Lenham in 1663. He would fit well to be this Basil.
Several things in favour of the one born 1663:
* a co-incidence if both Basils of a similar age were in Lenham, and the one who married Elizabeth Fox was there by the time he married (from PR entry and marriage licence);
* this Basil used the name Theodore (the name of the father of the one baptised in 1663) before the name Thomas
* this Basil called his only dau Isabella (which seems to have been interchangeable with Sibella). The Basil born 1663 appears ot have had a sister "Sibbla", I've found no use of the name in the family of Basil born 1652.
* a 1663 birth would make him closer in age to his wife - both quite possible, one born in 1663 more likely to have married someone born about 1676
* a 1694/5 marriage would have been unusually late for the first marriage of someone born 1652 - i.e. aged c. 42, and the marriage licence (Cowper's transcript) does show him as a bachelor
* this Basil died in 1739; a birth about 1652 would mean he was about 87, 1663 about 76. Far more people made it to 76 than to 87, I think the latter was quite rare - but one of his sons did live to 87 and longevity seems to run in family, so this is a pretty weak argument in favour of the 1663 Basil.

Father Theodore BECON, bap. 4 Jan 1628/29, St. Bartholomew’s Church, Waltham, Kent, England
, bur. 24 Apr 1702, St. Nicholas’ Church, Boughton Malherbe, Kent, England
(Age ~ 73 years) Mother Love, d. Aft 1702, Lenham, Kent, England
Married - I suspect Theodore and Love married and their son Theodore was baptised (or Theodore son of Theodore by a previous marriage) during the turbulent Civil War and interregnum years for which many PR entries do not survive.
