Name William GRIGGS Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 4 Oct 1812 St. Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, England - About 1812 or early 1813 from 1851 census (where shown as aged 38)
Actual date from baptism register
Baptised 1 Nov 1812 St. Laurence’s Church, St. Lawrence in Thanet, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 16 July 2019)
Gender Male Occupation 1837 Labourer - At the time his son James was baptised
Occupation Between 1839 and 1851 Store-house man - So described in the marriage PR entry for his son James as well as baptisms for some of his children, the first being for Sarah in 1839.
Also described as a 'Store H. man' in the 1841 census and a 'warehouseman' in the 1851 census.
Died Jun Q 1851 Thanet Reg Dist, Kent, England - An entry in the death duties register suggests it was the death of this William, as it not only shows him as 'of Margate' but names the executor as Martha Griggs; I don't think another William of Margate would have named a Martha Griggs as his executor at this time.
GRO ref: Griggs, William q2 1851 I of Thanet RD 5 341; GRO online index shows age at death as 38

Probate 7 Jul 1851 Archdeaconry Court, Canterbury, Kent, England - The index to the death duties register shows the will was proved in the PCC. However, it was actually proved in the Archdeaconry Court:
"The before registered Will of William Griggs deceased was proved the seventh day of July 1851 before the Reverend John Rickey[?] Francis Clerk Surrogate of the Worshipful Travers Twiss Doctor of Laws Official General of the Reverend the Archdeacon of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Martha Griggs Widow the Relict of the deceased the sole Executrix named in the said Will She being first sworn duly to perform the same."
