    • The 1911 census shows that  Joseph and Caroline had had 5 children, 2 of whom had by then died. This William appears to be theirs; there is no other sign of a Hughes - Hyde couple on Thanet or of another Hughes child with a mother's maiden name of Hyde that could be Joseph and Caroline's fifth.

      I cannot find a death registration, though as well as the 1911 census showing two had died he was not with his parents in 1901 and their giving the name William to another son in 1898 suggests he had died by then.
