Spencer Charles SLINGSBY
Set As Default Person -
Name Spencer Charles SLINGSBY Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1848 London, England
- Shown as born Aylesford in the 1861 census where also shown as the son of Samuel, but shown as born London when with his Gates grandfather and his family aged 2. As his grandfather lived in Aylesford, I think he would have known if his grandson had been born there. More likely Samuel assumed this birthplace because it was his wife was from and where her son lived from a young age.
Although shown as Samuel's son, he would have been born about 4 years before Samuel and Fanny married, and it seems likely he was not, although as he was living with his mother and the family in 1871 and was listed before Samuel and Fanny's (other) children he appears to have been at least treated as a son by Samuel.

It appears that by 1891 Samuel and Fanny may have separated, because although Fanny was shown as a visitor in the home of her unmarried sister Lucy (where Samuel and Fanny's daughter was living), Fanny also died in Maidstone Reg District, not in Kingston where Samuel was then living. She may of course have gone to live with her sister and daughter to be cared for in ill health.
