    Graduated
Oath of Allegiance 19 Feb 1686/87
    Subscribed
    • Every person about to be ordained priest or deacon had to, before ordination, take and subscribe to the oath of allegiance and supremacy in the presence of the archbishop or bishop by whom he is about to be ordained. John did this the day before his ordination as a deacon.

There are records (noted on the CCEd website) of the subscription and ordination of a John Adams who fits well as this one: the college is right, and the date fits with that of his graduation (as recorded by Foster).
Ordained 20 Feb 1686/87  St. Peter-in-the-East Church, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    To the diaconate
    • John was ordained by the Bishop of Sodor and Man, Baptist Levinz, with the permission of Samuel Parker, Bishop of Oxford. Baptist Levinz appears to have been an academic, based in Oxford, rather than in his diocese.
    Will
    • A will is listed by Fry, no copy now known to survive
Occupation Between 13 Oct 1688 and 10 Mar 1732/33  Blackawton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Vicar
    • I have not found out what John did between his ordination as deacon and being instituted as vicar of Blackawton (that includes not finding when he was priested).

Institution as Perpetual Vicar details from CCEd, citing Devon RO, Chanter 26 (Register) (record link). The Patron at this time was Nicholas Roope

There is a reference to John being Vicar in Devon RO, Chanter 220 (Liber Cleri) (2 Sep 1689)

There is a another reference to John being Vicar in Devon RO, Chanter 220 (Liber Cleri) (22 Sep 1692)

Buried 10 Mar 1732/33  St. Michael’s Church, Blackawton, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • From PR entries (images on FMP, viewed 9 Aug 2014):
"March 10. Buried the Rev.nd Mr. John Adams Minister of Blackawton" (under heading '1732') (Archive ref: 995A/PR/1/3 )
"[March] the. 10. Buried. the Reverend Mr. John Adams Minister of Blackawton Affidavit 13."  (under heading '1732') (Archive ref: 995A/PR/1/4)
    Notes
    • (Research):I wondered if John had been married before he married Jane. There were 3 bapisms of children of John and Ann(a) at Blackawton in the 1690s; two showed 'Mr John Addams and Ann(a)', the other shows that that John was a yeoman, and a William baptised in 1701 who could be a child with Jane, but also shows that the father was John Adam the yeoman.

    • That this Jane was married to a John Adams (after John Holdich died) from the Court of Chancery case regarding her uncle William Wotton's will (C 6/324/47). This also describes him as 'Clarke' making it clear it was the Vicar and not the Yeoman with the name that she was married to, as does the PR entry.

"Mr John Adams Vicar of Blackauton & Mrs Jane Holditch were married the sixth day of June"
