Name Charles GOATHAM Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Mar Q 1868 Sittingbourne, Kent, England - GRO ref: Goatham, Charles q1 1868 Milton RD 2a 768; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Kemsley
Baptised 2 Feb 1868 St. Michael’s Church, Sittingbourne, Kent, England - From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 19 Jun 2019)
Gender Male Education 1871 Scholar Occupation 1881 General labourer Occupation 1891 Bricklayer's labourer Residence 1901 34, New Road, Sittingbourne, Kent, England - With his sister Edith and her baby Maud Mary. Charles was listed first, but his relationship to the head of the household was listed as 'son', implying his mother lived at the address. She seems to be a boarder with her daughter Rosa, although the information in the entry is not a perfect fit. I suspect she had gone to assist Rosa and her family as she had given birth just 4 days before the census.
Whilst Charles may accurately be described as 'son', although there was no 'head' present, the others in the household were incorrectly described with their relationship to the previous person. Thus Charles's sister Edith, daughter to the 'head' was described as 'sister', while Edith's baby who should have been 'granddaughter', or 'neice' in relation to Charles, was described in relation to Edith as 'daur'!
Occupation From 1901 to 1911 Brickfield labourer - Shown as a brickfield labourer in the 1901 census. His occupation initially entered simply as 'Labourer' in 1911 the entry was then supplemented with '(Brick)' and 'Brick Manufactory' was added in the 'Industry' column.
Residence 1911 Milton next Sittingbourne, Kent, England - In 1911 Charles was still single, a boarder with the May family in Milton Regis, Sittingbourne
Died Sep Q 1917 Milton Reg Dist, Kent, England - GRO ref: Goatham, Charles q3 1917 aged 49 Milton RD 2a 1029
Re death ref - I think this is probably this Charles - age 49 so born about 1867/8; the other Charles Goatham born in 1868 was born Dover
