Baptised 19 Jun 1631 St. Saviour’s Church, Dartmouth, Devon, England - There was also a Walter, son of Walter, baptised at St. Clement's Dartmouth (Townstal) in 1633, but that can't be this Walter as his uncle George Knowling's will refers to his brother William's father as another William Wotton. But William was a very common name and this Walter was described as 'of Harberton' when he married. So can we be confident he was the Walter baptised at St. Saviour's in 1631?
I think we can, both because the siblings agree with those named in wills and Chancery documents, with just a William missing, and added to this, a William married a Sarah Knowling in Blackawton in 1628. Several documents suggest Walter had Knowling aunts / uncles, so this marriage would fit, plus there are no Wotton children following the marriage there, but these starting as they do in 1629 appear to be the children of that same William. Unfortunately the St. Saviour's PRs at this time do not give the mother's name. We do know from other sources that the Knowlings were a Dartmouth family.
