[1] Grocer - The son of the Whitchurch general stores keeper, Walter Henry married the daughter of a Tavistock grocer.
According to "Tavistock (The Archives Photographs Series)" his father-in-law, John Carter, passed the Tavistock business to 'Henry' and Winifred in 1913. John Carter must have remained involved though, as it was he who laid the foundation stone of the extended store (which followed a fire) in 1928. This was 2 months before this death, and though the shop retained the name Carter's for some time it eventually changed and became well-known as Creber's.
Occupation to 1913 General Stores, Whitchurch, Devon, England
Grocer's assistant - Shown as assistant to his mother in the 1911 census, it seems reasonable to suppose he remained there until his marriage in 1913.
