  • Name Grace JUSTHAM
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born
    • Shown as aged 55 in the 1841 census, 86 (which I suspect should be 66 - unless it was meant to be 68) in the 1851 census.
      So born prob 1782-1785.
Baptised 15 Mar 1783  St. Eustachius’ Church, Tavistock, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location  [1
    Gender Female
Residence 1841  Milton Combe, Buckland Monachorum, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • Recorded as being at Milton no. 16.
With William and Grace were 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Norrish, shown as aged 8 and 6 (though baptism records suggest their ages were probably (at least) 9 and 7)
Residence 1851  Lillipit, Buckland Monachorum, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • The widowed Grace now had one (different) grandchild living with her - 21 year old ag lab John Norrish.
He may have provided the census info. since his grandmother's birthplace is shown as unknown, but surely he can't have thought she was 86? - maybe that was a slip by the enumerator (she would have been 68, so the order of the digits has simply been switched).
    Occupation 1851
    Working on a farm
    • Presumably Grace was working near Lillipit, where she was living. Her grandson John Norrish was living with her, described as an ag lab, but the enumerator seems to have found it inappropriates to described women as ag labs, and hence we find all men on the pages working at a farm described as "Ag: Lab:", whilst the women are all "Working [at/on] a Farm"!
Residence 1861  St. Budeaux, Devon, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location

    • Shows Richard Pike Jetsam as sojourner of Milton Abbot parish, in contrast to the marriage part of the register entry which shows him as of Buckland Monachorum. He may have stayed in the parish so the banns only needed to be called there and not in both churches - a way of saving money.

An Edward BINNEY was buried in Buckland Monachroum on 30 May 1811, aged 1 year and 3 months, i.e. he was born about Feb 1810. Was this a son of William and Grace? I haven't found a baptism for him, but am not aware of other Binney families having children in Buckland around this time.
