"The Book of Buckland Monachorum & Yelverton" (source 129) explains (p.77) that it was reduced in size as the farmhouse and some cottages were knocked down for the Milton Brook Reservoir - a scheme that never went ahead. The cottages demolished included some in the wood, reached by crossing a wooden plank across the Bickham Brook!
Although tiny now, at the time of the 1841 census there were 9 homes housing 55 people, mostly ag labs and their families, but also a smith with several apprentices and a thatcher.
