Name Richard GREENAWAY Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Between 1796 and 1803 St. Breward, Cornwall, England - The birthplace and date suggested by the censuses are a bit inconsistent. The 1841 has 'Y'es for Devon and the 1851 shows Beer Ferris. But the 1861 and 1871 censuses suggest that Richard was born in St. Breward in Cornwall.
His age is shown as 40 (1841, rounded down => b. 1796-1801), 48 (1851 => b. 1802-3), 65 (1861 =>b. 1795-6), 72 (1871 => b. 1798-9).
Gender Male Occupation 1841 Beerferris, Devon, England Labourer - Living at Tuckers Marsh Quay, possibly doing labouring work associated with the Quay.
Occupation 1851 Beerferris, Devon, England Farmer of 5 acres - Still living at Tuckers Marsh so must have been there or not too far away
Occupation From 1861 to 1871 Beerferris, Devon, England Gardener - Still living at Tuckers Marsh. Recorded as a Cottage Gardener in 1861, and a gardener in 1871, this may reflect the same occupation as in 1851, farmer seeming not quite appropriate for a cottage gardener.
Living with Richard and Margaret in 1871 was 20 year old David Watters, recorded as a servant. With Richard now aged somewhere around 72 David's job was probably assisting with the gardening. Or the need for assistance may be due to Margaret able to do less - although shown as gardener's wife, this did not necessarily mean she was assisting, and given that she was to die later that year she may already have been suffering ill-health and no longer able to help.
