Charles Henry SPURRELL
Set As Default Person -
Name Charles Henry SPURRELL Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1865 Lydford, Devon, England
- GRO ref: Spurrell, Charles H q1 1866 Tavistock RD 5b 392; GRO online index shows middle name as Henry and mother's maiden name as head
Gender Male Education 1881 Scholar - Living in Sampford Spiney, still at school aged 15 so may not have been the village school - maybe in Tavistock?
Occupation 1891 Sampford Spiney, Devon, England
Carpenter and joiner - Living (with his parents) in Sampford so I guess he was based there for work. He was shown as "employed".
Died 22 May 1899 - Died 2 days before his mother, with whom he was living - an accident, or contagious disease or ...?
A brother died the same quarter in Plymouth RD.
Date from grant of admin., also on gravestone in Sampford Spiney.
(Gravestone shows him as son of William and Sophia A., aged 33)
GRO ref: Spurrell, Charles Henry q2 1899 aged 34 Tavistock RD 5b 253
Buried 25 May 1899 St. Mary’s Church, Sampford Spiney, Devon, England
[1] - The burial register shows the burials of both Charles and his mother as being in March, not May. However, with the death registrations being in Q2 not Q1 and the gravestone and date of death shown in the probate index agreeing May dates of death, I am assuming the priest simply wrote down the wrong month. With the previous burial 15 March and the next in July it is not possible to see that there has been an error from the order of entries in the register.
Grant of Administration 8 Jun 1899 Calendar entry - Spurrell Charles Henry of Philadelphia-cottage Horrabridge Devonshire carpenter died 22 May 1899 Administrator Exeter 8 June to Bessie Michell (wife of Bath Perkins Michell) Effects £122.
