  • Name Matthew CUDLIP
    Relationshipwith Teresa Ann GOATHAM
    Born
    • My estimate of date based on date of marriage was 1646, but age at 1st marriage variable enough (and may not even have been his first marriage).
PRs only survive for Bickleigh from 1696, and there are no BTs surviving for any year after 1641 until 1664 (during the interregnum, when there were no Bishops, there would have been no transcripts).
Hence Matthew could have been from Bickleigh although I have found no evidence so far. There are no Cudlips in the surviving BTs to 1641, so if here were born there the family cannot have been there long.
A surname particularly found in Tavistock (Cudlipptown was in a detached part of Tavistock Parish), there was a Matthew baptised in Whitchurch in 1642, for whom no alternative further records can be found, so it seems highly likely this Matthew was him.
