County Labourer - touching the place of his last legal
settlement taken on Oath before me one of his Majesty's
Justices of the Peace in and for the said County this
Thirty first day of December one thousand eight
hundred and twenty seven
Who saith that he was born in the said
Parish of Kingsteignton as he has heard and believes
to be True (but that he has ^ also heard that his Fathers
Settlement was in the Parish of Teigngrace in the
said County) and when examinant was about eight
years old he went to ^ live to Mr. Smales at Ware ^ in the said Parish of Kingsteignton driving
his Horses - for his meat & Cloathes and this
Examinant lived at the said M Smales Six
Years and Eleven Months, when Examinant came
away then went to work at Tar in the said
County with one Mr Whale and worked for him as
a Day Labourer about Nine Months. Examinant
then went to Newfoundland for four years,
when he returned and entered ^ as a Seaman in the Merchant
Service where he remained for eight years and
then got married in the Parish Church of St. Thomas the
Apostle near Exeter Examinant then went to
sea again but has done no other acgt to gain a Settlement

There seems to be no removal order for Samuel and his family, and his children, including George born in 1828, i.e. soon after the examination, were all baptised in Kingsteignton, so it appears that the family remained in Kingsteignton.
