NOTE: although her parents appear to have been married before Elvira was born, her birth appears to have been registered with Nobile as her surname and Barnaby as her middle name. Perhaps there was an error in the registration. (It does not appear to be an indexing error as the same is found in both the original index and the GRO online index)
Thomas, who I imagein was her father, seems to have died by 1901 but I don't know when. If Thomas was not her father, then Nobile could have been her father's surname - but why would her mother have then given Elvira the middle name Barnaby?
Whatever the explanation, Elvira seems to have been known subsequently by the surname Barnaby.
