    Vintner
    • John (recorded as son of Richard, of Herne, Kent) was apprenticed to Edward Baker of the Vintners' Company of London.

A Richard Rider b c 1611 was a vintner in Canterbury - maybe this was a relation on John's mother's side of the family, and influenced him (or his parents) in their decision that this would be a suitable trade. (source: marr licence, 1637, in Cowper's transcript, 2nd series, p.831, PDF p215)
Died 1678  St. Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, London, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • If the inventory (see below) is for this John.

Given the rareness of the surname I was guessing that the John who died in 1678 was this one. However, I am now aware there were a few Go(a)thams etc. in London around this time, so it is not save to assume it was him.

A John Goetham married in Holy Trinity Minories in 1687. He was shown as a bachelor, so probably not this John, as it would be fairly late for a first marriage. A John was having children in Bermondsey at least between 1681 and 1691. Could that be this John?
    Probate 4 Jan 1678/79

    • I am guessing it was this "John Gotham" who died a bachelor c 1678, and for whom an inventory survives in the London Metropolitan Archives (seen, not yet transcribed - nothing in it to provide a clue as to whether this John and / or if related to the Kentish Goathams)
