Gender Male Military Service From 17 Mar 1915 to 7 Jul 1915 Private in the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles - Sidney served briefly in WW1, joining up on 17 Mar 1915 at Herne. However, after less than 4 months, all spent in England, he was found unfit and discharged.
He had passed a medical examination when he joined, but that seems to have been based on physical fitness. When he was discharged the medical officer wrote:
"The Mental Capacity of this recruit leaves much to be desired - He is intellectually dull & unsuited for a soldier."
However, his military character was given as 'Good', and in more detail he wsa descrbed thus:
"An honest & clean man, Should prove a useful man in a civil occupation."

Announcement of his death in the East Kent Gazette shows the place of his death, which is where his sister Hilda had been living with her husband in 1939. I guess this was still there home and Sidney died at their home. Reason not known, his wife and family seem to have remained living in West Kent after he died (or had they moved and moved back?) If they hadn't all moved, had Sidney and his wife separated? did he happen to die visiting his sister? was Hilda better placed to care for him in his last illness?
