Obituary 23 Jun 1933 In the North Wilts Herald - "Death of Mrs. G. Titcombe. -
Purton has lost a much-respected inhabi-
tant by the death on Saturday of Mrs.
Annie Titcombe, wife of Mr. George Tit-
combe, of The Butts. She had been ill
for some months, and bore her sufferings
with great patience. Mrs. Titcombe will
be greatly missed by the Purton branch
of the Co-operative Women's Guild, of
which she was a great supporter. A one-
time secretary, she held the position of
president at the time of her death. The
esteem in which she was held was evident
by the large number of members of the
Guild, and local friends who assembled at
the funeral at St. Mary's Church, on
Wednesday. It was conducted by the
Vicar (the Rev. N. S. Willis)."

Mary HARBULT, b. Est 1736, d. Yes, date unknown (2 x Great Grandmother)Notes - (Research):Who was Annie Maria?
Who were Annie's parents? There were several Annie / Annie Maria Goathams, but despite the concentration of Goathams in Bredgar, none whose details fits what is known of this Annie Maria. The closest 'fit' is one born in Faversham in 1871, but it is very clear she died in 1872.
The only person I know of who this could be is Maria, born 1867, daughter of Michael and Olive. She was working as a domestic servant in Hampshire by 1891, but I know nothing of her after that.
Although Wiltshire and Hampshire share a boundary, Crondall and Purton are not near each other, being nearly 60 miles by the most direct route, so it is not obvious that Maria's being in Hampshire in the 1890s would have resulted in her meeting George Titcombe.
Maria's age is also a few years more than that given for Annie in the 1911 census and at death; maybe she misled her husband so as not to appear several years older than him.
Further evidence that it was likely to be Maria, daughter of Michael and Olive is provided by the marriage of their daughter Janet Eliza in 1906 - she also married a man born in Purton. Purton is only a village, albeit a large one, about 126 miles from Bredgar. The chance of Annie Maria and Janet Eliza both marrying men born in the same village other than because of a connection between them is remote. However, many Goatham families lived in Bredgar, cousins and 2nd cousins etc. and it just could have been a friendship between Janet and some sort of cousin that led to them both meeting and marrying Purton men.
Purton seems the most likely place for Annie and George to have married; I will look at the PRs when visiting the Wiltshire Record Office and see if I can find their marriage and hence Annie's father's name. If it wasn't at Purton I may have to buy a copy of the marriage certificate, as I hope this will confirm that Maria, daughter of Michael and Olive, became known as Annie.
