Death Follows Short Illness
Michael Goatham, 84, [actually 91] former coach builder and native of England, died Monday morning at the home of his step-son Albert Hampshire, of 918 Alger street, following a five weeks' illness.
Mr. Goatham had been a resident of Fremont since coming here in 1907 to make his home with his step-children. He is survived by five steps-sons and three step-daughters: Albert Hampshire if Alger street, Thomas Hampshire of South street, Henry Hampshire of Wolf avenue, Sidney Hampshire of west State street, Friend Hampshire and Mrs. Clara Denton of England, Mrs. Alfred Shilling and Mrs. Bert Wilkins of June street.
Mr. Goatham was born in Bredgar, Kent, England July 2, [date of baptism] 1849 [birth and baptism both 1842]. He was married to Mary Ann Hampshire in 1890. [actually 1897]
The body will be removed to the Hampshire home on Alger street Monday afternoon from the Schwartz-Eagon funeral parlors. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence with Rev. C. C. Bubb officiating. Burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery.
During his residence in Fremont Mr. Goatham had made many friends who will regret to learn of his death.
