Theodore BECON
Set As Default Person -
Name Theodore BECON Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Baptised 1758 St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Borden, Kent, England
- From KFHS transcript (CD 21). Like most most 1758 entries the date was found to be unreadable, but it is the first of 3 between baptisms dated 30 June and in October.
Parents given as Thomas and Mary BAKER. Despite, this, I think Theodore was the son of Thomas because:
1. surname given as BECHIR and BAKER for baptisms of his other children in Borden;
2. suggests an age matching that of a burial for a
3. Theodore was a very rare name generally, but used regularly in the Be(a)con family, including for a brother of Thomas the father.
Was the mother Mary or Katherine? A Katherine BAKER was buried in Borden in 1756, the same month that her son Thomas was baptised so maybe she died in childbirth and Thomas had remarried BUT other people believe she died in 1807 (I don't yet know the source / strength of evidence for this), if so it would seem to be a slip in the PR or transcription of it.
Gender Male Buried 11 Feb 1821 St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church, Borden, Kent, England
- From KFHS CD 21 - Theodosius BEACON, aged 62
Is the burial this Theodore? I suspect it is, as I haven't found the burial elsewhere, plus there was also a Susan / Susanna in the parish in 1791 (when witnessed a wedding) and in 1841 (when buried) who would fit as Theodore's wife.
However, a "Thomas Becon" was also buried here in 1767 and cleearly another Thomas had a son bapt here in 1790.
Siblings2 brothers and 1 sister
Half-siblings3 half brothers (family of John PATEMAN and Catherine BOURNE) Patriarch & Matriarch
Thomas BECON, b. Abt 1480, d. Yes, date unknown (5 x Great Grandfather)
Catherine BOURNE, bap. 12 Mar 1730/31, St. Margaret’s Church, Hothfield, Kent, England
, bur. 10 Jan 1807, St. Bartholomew’s Church, Bobbing, Kent, England
(Age ~ 75 years) (Mother)
Notes - See attached sources. [1]
- (Research):I did have Theodore as the son of Bozwell and Joanna (nee Skeer), but without a baptism found, and a date of birth of c.1750. I think I was guessing or it was from another researcher.
However, the baptism as son of Thomas fits and gives an age agreeing with that given at burial.

Other Partners: John PATEMAN m. 12 Apr 1772Married Abt 11 Oct 1751 St. Mary Bredin Church, Canterbury, Kent, England
- Date and place of marriage not certain, however the marriage licence shows it was to be in Canterbury; marriages in Canterbury were often on the day that the licence was issued.
It gives an option of 2 churches; the marriages registers for St. Margaret's for this period are online - it appears NOT to have been there. That suggests it was at the other, St. Mary Bredin (PR entries for this church at this period not found online)
