John JORY
Set As Default Person -
Name John JORY Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born - Being baptised in 1775 it is unlikely that John was aged more than a few months at the time and so presumably also born 1775.
The age of the John I am equating with this one in the 1841 census and at burial suggest a birth in 1766-71 and about 1768-9 respectively.
So, given the age discrepancy, am I right to equate the two? Possibly not, but I think it probable as:
- after giving a son his own name he named one Richard, suggesting a strong link to a John;
- I can't find another baptism that could be that of the John who married Jane (but it could have been mis-transcribed or in a non-conformist church or ...)
- if the two weren't the same what became of John, son of Richard and Mary?
** Accepting an age discrepancy there is a real possibility I have switched 2 Johns, both baptised in 1775 **
I think one of them was a direct ancestor of mine. The other John, the one I have linked as my ancestor, was baptised in Lewtrenchard, son of another Richard and Mary.

Occupation 1841 Ag lab Buried 23 Apr 1845 St. Bridget’s Church, Virginstow, Cornwall, England
- From Cornwall OPC database
Shows John JURY, aged 76, abode Coombe's Head Cottage in Broadwoodwidger
(Presumably John was buried in Virginstow rather than Broadwoodwidger as that was where his first wife had been buried. Also, it would not have been difficult; Coombe's Head seems to be nearly 2 miles from Broadwoodwidger Church, just under 2.5 miles from Virginstow Church so not very different)
