Frederick HUNT
Set As Default Person -
Name Frederick HUNT Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 9 Dec 1851 Church Lane, Faversham, Kent, England
- Frederick was the son of Mary Ann Hunt and *may* have been the son of the man she married about 10 years later, Jeremiah Cornwell. His marriage certificate names his father as 'Jeremiah Hunt, deceased' - this may have been to avoid appearing illegitimate. (Jeremiah Cornwell was still living at this time).
GRO ref: Hunt, Frederick q1 1852 Faversham RD 2a 529; no mother's maiden name shown suggesting he was illegitimate
Shown as born Bredgar in the 1871 census, but as Faversham in 1881 - 1911.
Gender Male Residence 1861 Bredgar, Kent, England
- With his 'uncle' Basil Hunt and his cousins (Basil's daughters) Susannah and Mary Ann (shown as nephew, but actually Basil was his great uncle).
'Next door' (the next census entry) was another great uncle, Charles Hunt, with his wife and children.
Occupation 1871 4, Mount Row, Westminster, London, England
Servant - Simply shown as a servant, which could have been as a coachman. He was, though, a lodger in one of several households at the address, so it is not even clear for whom he was a servant.
Occupation From 1881 to 1891 Coachman - In the 1881 census recorded simply as 'coachman', simply as 'servant' a couple of months earlier when he married (though there was a clue in that he was living in a Mews).
in 1891 as 'Coachman domestic servant'.
Perhaps not surprisingly given that the family were living in mews, the neighbours (heads of households) on the same census page were also coachmen; there were a couple of grooms, one a son and one a younger brother of the head.
Residence 2 Jan 1881 16, Cranley Mews, Kensington, London, England
- At the time of his marriage
Residence From 3 Apr 1881 to 1883 13, Onslow Mews, Kensington, London, England
- The 1881 census shows Frederick and his wife Emma were living at 13 Onslow Mews, and they were also recorded as of Onslow Mews when their daughter Alice was baptised in 1883, though the no. was then shown as 15.
Residence 1886 3, Cranley Mews, Kensington, London, England
- When his daughter Emily was baptised
Residence From 1891 to 1913 14, Queensbury Mews West, Kensington, London, England
- Frederick was with his wife and four children at the time of the 1891 and 1901 censuses. The family are shown as occupying four rooms. In 1911 Frederick was absent, a visitor in Hove on census night, but his wife and 4 children were still at the address. His wife was entered as such, rather than head, although the ennumerator changed her status to 'head'. However, the electoral rolls show Frederick at this address from 1890 through to 1913 so it seems clear he had not left the family.
Residence 1921 65, Elmfield Road, Balham, London, England
- With his wife, son George Frederick, daughter Alice and Alice's husband.
Child Status Illegitimate Died Sep Q 1924 Wandsworth Reg Dist, Surrey, England
- His grandson records his death as c. 1924. I have found Frederick on a 1921 electoral roll but not with his wife in 1927. In 1921 he was recorded with at his son's address in Balham, as was his widow in 1927; this address was in Wandsworth RD, although nearby hospitals could be in others.
The above together makes this his probable death entry (the only death of a Frederick HUNT in Wandsworth RD, 1921-1927; I didn't search on age but the age fits; it is also the only death of a Frederick in 1924)

- From PR entry (image on Ancestry, viewed 27 March 2014)
The 1911 census shows that Frederick and Emma had had a 5th child who was not living (they almost certainly were born and died between censuses; with a surname like Hunt it could be hard to find them)I think this was probably Mabel Martin HUNT
Birth: GRO ref: HUNT, Mabel Martin q3 1887 Kensington RD 1a 98; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Martin
Death: GRO ref: HUNT, Mabel Martin q1 1888 aged 0 Kensington RD 1a 105
