Susan was 7 months pregnant when they set sail, giving birth on the voyage. She and George also had with them 5 children aged 3 to 10, but she did at least have the help of 17 year old Mary Ashby who was sailing under the Saywell's protection.
Also with them on the journey were their friends, the Judds, from Bicknor.
It was a troubled passage, with an outbreak of smallpox during the trip.
