Prothesye SKIRRETT, [Parents?]
Set As Default Person -
Name Prothesye SKIRRETT Suffix [ONS gp] [Parents?] Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1590 - Date estimated from date of marriage.
All the Skirretts in the Tavistock / Whitchurch area at this time seem to be descended from the marriage of John Skirrett to Thomasine Landere, so Prothesye was probably a granddaughter of theirs (she must have been too young to be their daughter, and probably too old to be a great granddaughter).
All of John and Thomasine's sons were old enough to have a daughter who married in 1613.
William seems the most likely because it is clear that he was married by 1584 and had children to 1604, and there is room amongst the known and likely children, but she could easily have been the daughter of another.
* Not only is whether William was Prothesye's father uncertain, BUT she may not have been a Skirrett by birth. The BTs suggest a woman's marital status was not recorded at this time, so she could have been a widow Skirrett, remarrying. *

(Age ~ 49 years) Mother Margery, bur. 14 Dec 1633, St. Eustachius’ Church, Tavistock, Devon, England
Married - In 1612, the year after William died, a widow Margery Skirret of Tavistock was involved in a case regarding a will (see Devon Wills Project).
The date suggests it was the will of William, especially as the later burial of a widow Margery cannot be matched with anyone else.

Family Richard CUDLIP, bur. 21 Nov 1668, St. Eustachius’ Church, Tavistock, Devon, England
Married 7 Mar 1613/14 St. Eustachius’ Church, Tavistock, Devon, England
- From BT entry (image on FamilySearch, viewed 9 Mar 2022)
"7. Richard Cudlipp & Prothesye Skirret were married" - under heading 'March - 1613'
I have not worked out which were Richard and Prothesye's chidlren, as there was at least 2 Richards having children baptised in Tavistock at the same time. One other Richard married in 1621, but the closeness of births suggested by baptisms in Feb 1619/20 and May 1620 suggests either a third Richard or that the one who married in 1621 was remarrying.
