Although shown as the son of Arthur and Maria it is clear that 'Arthur' is an error for 'Anthony' - probably a mis-reading of a note as the names don't sound similar but could look similar.
Evidence that an error:
- there is only one birth reg to fit and it gives the mother's maiden name as Henwood, which fits this couple
- there is no evidence of any Arthur Northmore in the BMD registration index for England or Wales, or of any PR entry for one prior to a birth in 1878
and evidence of support of him being the son of Anthony and Maria:
- the mother's maiden name as above
- the abode given is as when his sister was baptised in 1849
- the mother's Christian name is right for this couple
- the father's occupation is right for this couple
- it is likely they would give the name Anthony to a son, but it was not a common name at the time and no other family is known of likely to use it (other than Anthony senior's brother John, so whom everything doesn't fit)

Physical Description 1882 - "height 5ft. 9¼in.; complexion, fair; hair, dark-brown; eyes, gray; nose, medium; mouth, medium; chin, small; vaccine left arm; scar above right elbow; burn outside right arm; two small moles left shoulder blade." (from the SA Police Gazette)
