Trimdon was in Stockton RD at this time, not Easington, but Wingate was in Easington and Trimdon Foundry was between the 2; I guess it came under Wingate.
Gender Male Military Service to 1916 Western European Theatre Northumberland Fusiliers in WW1 - Enlisting at Seaham Harbour, Simon served as a Private in the Northumberland Fusiliers - 20th Battalion (Tyneside Scottish), number 20/1351. He fought in the Western European Theatre dying in France or Flanders. His medal card shows "presumed dead"; with no body to bury he is remember on the Thiepval Memorial. Although subsequently believed to have been killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, during action in La Boiselle area, as late as 28 Aug he was still being reported as 'missing'. (in list of 'Wounded and Missing' in the North-Eastern Daily Gazette, p4, col. 1)
Simon was also commemorated on a memorial plaque in Dawdon Miners' Lodge - photo on this website (7th memorial shown).
