I think Thomas must be one of two 1st cousins, either Thomas, son of Thomas and Mary, bapt 1741 in Blackawton or the son of John and Dorothy, bapt 1745 in Slapton.
Looking at the names this Thomas gave his sons, they are very similar to those used by Thomas who named his son Thomas in Blackawton in 1741, so I think it probable that this Thomas was the one baptised in Blackawton, and have linked him as such.
Bennett / Bellett
I have merged here into one family a marriage shown (at least in DFHS transcript) as Thomas Bennets and Elizabeth Brooking, the 4 children shown as Bennet when baptised (1768 - 1775) and the 5 children shown as Bellett (1778-1787) all (incl marr) in Woodleigh, also 3 children baptised in East Allington (1790 - 1793, 2 as Bennett and one as Bellett) and the burials, also in East Allington. The burials of Thomas and Elizabeth also shown them as Bellett.
I cannot find a Bellett marriage, I have not come across appropriate Bennet burials. It seems to me most likely that it is one family and that either:
1. there was a name change - but as well as a change in Woodleigh another would seem to have happened in East Allington (if there was a name change, and this Thomas was born Thomas Bennet(t), then he doesn't belong on this tree.
2. 2 deaf clergy! - and/or Thomas or Elizabeth did not speak clearly
3. the records are hard to read and all entries show Bellett. Seems a little unlikely given that in Woodleigh the 5 entries in 1775 and before all show the name as Bennett, while the 5 after all show Bellett. Could be explained by a change of clergy, one with worse handwriting, or a change of register, one more decayed.
It is surprising that that the same mix seems to have occurred in both parishes.
Since writing the above I have looked further back in Blackawton PRs and found a similar mix of the name Bellett and Bennett for what is clearly the same family there.
