Name Thomas MUSCHAMP Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1430 Gender Male Civic duty 1463 London, England Sheriff of London Will 1 Sep 1472 Written Died Between 1 Sep 1472 and 6 May 1474 - Between writing his will and it being proved.
Probate 6 May 1474 Prerogative Court of Canterbury, London, England - The probate statement refers to 6 May above said, but the above date in the will was 1 Sep 1472 - clearly it cannot have been proved in May 1472. The previous will in the register has a grant of probate dated 4 May 1474, so the 'abovesaid' year probably means that one, the one in the previous probate statement; that is how the TNA show the date in Discovery (i.e. as 6 May 1474)..
(TNA ref. PROB 11/6/220)
Residence Peckham, London, England - Thomas mentions his Chapel in Peckham in his will. It is not clear if he is referring to a Chapel in the manor separate from the parish church (Camberwell) or a chapel within Camberwell Parish Church.
Either way, it suggests he had a home in Peckham.
Buried St. Mary Magdalen’s Church, Milk Street, London, England Siblings 1 brother Patriarch & Matriarch MUSCHAMP, d. Yes, date unknown (Father)Notes - (Research):The father of Thomas (son of this Thomas) is shown as William in the Surrey visitation. However a will suggests otherwise.
This Thomas's wife Mawde left a will naming a son Thomas with a wife Elizabeth; the Thomas I show as his son did have a wife named Elizabeth.
I have yet to read / transcribed all of the fairly long will of this Thomas, but I have found he mentions property in Peckham, and the Thomas I show as his son left property in Peckham (mentioned in his wife Elizabeth's IPM).
I do think these strongly suggest this Thomas was the son of the younger Thomas as shown here.
The visitation showing William was taken in 1623; Thomas died about 1474. It is easy to see how the person giving the information to the heralds may not have known the details accurately.
I don't know if William was recorded by mistake for Thomas OR if the visitation is missing a generation, and this Thomas's father was William.
The will of this Thomas and of his wife shows he had sons Thomas, Henry and Stephen - no William - so it would not appear to be the other way around, with Thomas a generation earlier than shown in the visitation, and the father of William.
There seem to be lots of IPMs for the Muschamps, mostly not amongst those for which there are online abstract, and I have yet to study all the wills; hopefully these will enable more confidence to be placed in the tree as shown here OR a more accurate tree to be constructed.
