The 1911 census, filled in by her mother, shows Elsie's middle name as May, although it is shown as Florence on her birth certificate (GRO copy).
It is Florence in both the original index and the new (2017) GRO online index, the chance that it would be mistranscribed twice seems so low I think it must almost certainly say Florence on the cert. These are both indexes of the GRO copy, though; it is possible that an error was made when that was completed and the original (local) copy has her middle name as May.
