Am I right that it was the Edward Skirrett of Tavistock who married Mary Rattenbury? His being described as gent combined with the name being quite an unusual one suggests I probably am. But am I also right that first son was baptised in Tavistock, then others in Okehampton, but first son married back in Tavistock?
Quite a large gap between marriage and first son if they Tavistock baptism was not of a son of this couple; I think that probably is correct. I have less confidence that it was their son Edward who married in Tavistock in 1698.
Okehampton PRs only survive from 1634, so it's possible Edward was born in Okehampton. However, judging by the index on FMP the marriage of Edward and Mary was the first 'Skirrett' event recorded there; even if Edward was born before 1634 it would be likely there would be some other Skirrett events between 1634 and 1664. There was a marriage of a Mary in 1683 - could be Edward's sister, although she was a little old for a first marriage; maybe Edward had died and it was Mary Rattenbury remarrying.
