Charles SKIRRETT
Set As Default Person -
Name Charles SKIRRETT Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Est 1580 - Named as son of John in the answer in a Chancery Court case (TNA ref: C 2/ChasI/S55/8), I guess the eldest living son in 1630 as it says 'her [Thomasin Glanvill née Landere's] said eldest sonne John Skyrrett had issue one Charles Skyrrett & other Children yet livinge'
Date estimated from estimate of father's dob and his death.
Gender Male Died - I think Charles was living at the time of the Chancery Court case in which named (it is not quite clear if the 'yet living' refers to Charles as well as the other children, or just the other children of John).
Before 2 Mar 1625/26 as in 1625 a Dorothy was buried in Whitchurch described as daughter of Charles deceased; that seems to be a reference to this Charles.
Buried 20 Dec 1620 St. Andrew’s Church, Whitchurch, Devon, England
Siblings1 sister Patriarch & Matriarch
Thomas SKIRRETT, b. Est 1495, d. Aft 1524 (Age ~ 30 years) (Great Grandfather)
Johane, d. Yes, date unknown (Mother)
Notes - (Research):A Charles with no wife's name given had a daughter Catherine baptised in Whitchurch in 1602, about right for this Charles.
A Charles Skirrett with a wife 'Pachkowe' (with lots of variant spellings the generally unsusal name Pascow which was locally quite popular at this time) had three children baptised in Whitchurch in the early C17th - Dorothy 1613, Henry 1615 and Pascowe 1618 - possibly this Charles having lost his first wife and remarried, hence the gap between Catherine and Dorothy. However, it seems clear that Charles and Pascowe also had sons Charles and Thomas for whom I have not yet found baptisms, they might fill the gap.

Father John SKIRRETT, b. Est 1554, d. 1583 (Age ~ 29 years) Mother Johane, d. Yes, date unknown Married - Answer in Chancery Court case of 1630 refers to there being living children of John at that time but only names Charles. ('... John Skyrrett had issue one Charles Skyrrett & other Children yet livinge').
Wife's name
"Tavistock records" book contains an entry from the CWs accounts for 1588-89 "Skyrrett, garden late in tenure of John Skyrrett, on higher side of the waye leading to lnscombe, ij";" - it seems probable that the John Skyrrett referred to was this John, and Johane his widow.
Did a daughter Alice marry Robert Burdon?
Vivian p.115, citing the 1620 visitation (Harl. MS. 1164, fo. 40) shows an Alice, daughter of 'John Skerick of South Tavistock' was married to Robert Burdon, of Burdon in High Hampton.
Robert and Alice had children shown by the visitation to have been born c.1599, 1606 and 1608. No age or date given for others who died young so their first could have been earlier. This suggests Alice could have been a daughter of this John and his wife. However, I am concerned that the description recorded by Vivian is 'of South Tavistock' - Tavistock is not usually prefixed with South, should it be South Tawton? There seem to have been family/ies in South Tawton with similar names around this time. In particular, there was an Alse, daughter of John SHERIT (I think, surname faint and not clear) baptised in Hatherleigh in 1564. Hatherleigh is a neighbouring parish of Highampton and so Robert and Alse may well have known each other; perhaps it was this Alse who was living in South Tawton at the time of her marriage.
