  	From FreeREG, accessed 24 Aug 2011 Shows Jane Louisa, daughter of Arthur Charles and Annie Maria Goatham, abode Duncan Road, father's occupation: Working Man, born 1888. Images of the PRs from Gillingham Anglican Churches are on CityArk. St. Barnabas had its own registers only from 1890; for 1888 the baptisms are included in the PRs for St. Mary Magdalen (in which parish St. Barnabas started as a mission church). However, browsing the appropriate register for c. June to September 1888 I cannot find Jane's baptism. The entries are not fully in order, probably due to those baptisms at St. Barnabas being added a little while after the event, but generally seem to be only a week or two after those at St. Mary Magdalen. Possibly Jane's was forgotten and added sometime later. I have checked the register for St. Mark's, New Brompton and the baptism does not seem to have been there. (More browsing to be done)

  Notes	With parents in the 1891 census, with her paternal grandparents in the 1901, not yet married but under married name in 1911. (Research):What became of Jane? I think she is almost certainly one and the same as the Jennie Elizabeth Goatham who married in Brentford in 1911, but who appears to have been born in Chatham in 1888. He had one daughter born 1887, Emmie. Emmie and Jennie are clearly NOT one and the same - there are records for Emmie through to her death, and entries for separate entries for both Jennie and Emmie and their husbands in the 1939 register. Since Jane Louisa's parents only married in 1887 I did wonder if Jennie could have been a daughter of theirs born before their marriage. Looking for such a person, i.e. the birth registration of a Jennie Elizabeth Cornwell, and for entries for her in the census, I cannot find any evidence that there was anyone with this name.

  	Arthur and Annie were together, with their daughter, at the time of  the 1891 census (night of 5th / 6th April), but in September Arthur put a notice in the Chatham News, telling tradesmen he would no longer be answerable for any debts contracted by his wife, suggesting she may have left him by then: "Notice to Tradesmen, I hereby give notice that I will not be answerable for any Debts contracted by my Wife, Annie Goatham, after this date.   Arthur Goatham."
