  	* No firm evidence that John was the son of Thomas * The fact that he appears to have lived at Sortridge suggests it, but Prince describes him as having died without issue. John's son Francis was left the advowson of Whitchurch by Francis, son of Sir Francis and grandson of Judge John and Alice. This would seem more likely if John was Thomas's son, and so the testator Francis would have been livng them to the son of his 1st cousin, than if some other more distantly related John had moved to Sortridge after Thomas' death. Marriage licence info may provide evidence of John's mother's name, especially likely if he was under 21 and parental consent required (date of licence and of his suggested parents marriage makes it likely he was under 21). It does seem widely believed that Winifred and her descendants, who inherited Sortridge, were descended from Judge John Glanville.

  	From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed 21 Jun 2016) "John Glanvill Gent: [word or two obliterated] buried the 14: day of December" - under heading '1693' Also recorded in Peter Tavy register (image on DFHS website, viewed 21 Jun 2016) "Mr John Glanvill was buried Dec:br 14 1693" I believe that the burial was in Whitchurch because the family lived at Sortridge, a detached part of Peter Tavy parish closer to Whitchurch; this explains the burial being in both registers if the burial was at Whitchurch but makes no sense if it was at Peter Tavy.

  	Date assumed from marriage licence. It seems reasonable to suppose the marriage was this Thomas - being of Tavistock, a gent and a likely age to marry. Marriage probably at Lewtrenchard, as Alford refers to the suggestion of Thomas Glanville to Joanna Calmady being suggested to him by the Vicar of Lewtrenchard; he would be likely to have been familiar with the PRs, not the marriage licences. However, the registers before 1706 seem not now to survive. The transcribed entries (images on FMP) jumps from marriages in 1623 to 1626; it is headed "A copy of the Transcripts now existing at the Diocesan Registry of lew Trenchard before 1660", i.e. it is not a transcript of the the deteriorating PR put together from BTs; the patchy survival of these no doubt explains the gaps.
