Richard HALKE
Set As Default Person -
Name Richard HALKE Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born Abt 1607 - Date from marriage licence if I am right about the licence being for this couple.
Otherwise about 1615 as a rough estimate based on my estimate of the birth of his younger son William.
William is not likely to have been born any later than 1660; if he was Richard's 2nd child then Richard could have married as later as 1657, and been born as later as 1637.
I think Richard was probably the son of William. William also farmed in Hastingleigh, and had a son George, an uncommon name amongst the Halkes but which Richard's son gave to one of his sons.
Gender Male Occupation 1635 Upper Hardres, Kent, England
Husbandman - (From marriage licence)
Occupation From 1663 to 1673 Husbandman - On marriage licences for daughter's marriages
Occupation 1678 Hastingleigh, Kent, England
Yeoman - Not only does he mention lands and implements of husbandry in this will, but his kinsman the Rev. John Halke described him as a yeoman when he left him a significant bequest in his will of 1678
Will 20 Jan 1680/81 Written Died Between 20 Jan 1680/81 and 11 Jan 1681/82 Buried 18 Dec 1681 St. Mary the Virgin Church, Hastingleigh, Kent, England
- From Tyler's notebook (viewed on Ancestry, 29 Dec 2015), Shows HALKE, Richd. Line inserted, something written just under not clear.
Probate 11 Jan 1681/82 Residence Hastingleigh, Kent, England
Notes - (Research):The Rev. John Halke, son of the Rev. William Halke who was a cousin, I think a first one, of my ancestor William Halke of Bircholt, appears to have left most of his property to his 'kinsman' Richard, and his sons Abraham and William.
I think, therefore, that Richard and his family are probably fairly closely related to my line but I have yet to work out how.
However, it is not uncommon for the same families to intermarry more than once, and it is possible that the Rev. John was related to Richard and his sons through a female line, not the one I share.
I suspect that the PRs with the entries may not be online, and may well not even survive (e.g. PRs for the period do not survive for Upper Hardres, where Richard was 'of' when he married; Brook, very nearby, although the ATs and BTs do surive for this period, and for Brook are on KFHS CD 23)

The marriage was probably at St. Margaret's Canterbury as this was the only church shown on the licence. The PRs for this date do not survive, so there is no image on FMP, but the ATs and BTs for this date do survive.
