    • William was described as a yeoman when his son George became an apprentice in 1624.

    Notes
    • I don't know for certain how William was related to the other Hastingleigh Halkes or others in the area, though the relationship I suggest now seems to me probable, hence me linking this William as the son of George.
Though it is natural to look for a close connection as the family had been in the area for many years he could have been a fairly distant cousin.

He was clearly not the son of John (grandfather of Dr William Harvey); his son William became Rector of Upminster, and whilst it was far from unknown for family to have 2 children with the same Christian name the fact he is not mentioned in the wills of either of John's sons Richard or William suggests a more distant link.
Richard choose William of Brabourne, probably no more closely related than 1st cousin, to be his executor, rather than this William, again suggesting the link was not particularly close (although of course other factors may determine the choice of executor).

I think he was probably the William referred to in a Court of Chancery case of 1597 (TNA ref: C2/Eliz/H13/21).
The William in the Court of Chancery case had a father named George, and the yeoman / husbandman of Hastingleigh who married Elizabeth Ward called his son George.

    • From East Kent Marriage Index (on FMP, viewed 28 Dec 2015)
(Shows Geo Hawke married Ann Carden)

PRs go back to January 1583/4 and then there is a gap until 1577; since the marriage of George amd Anne took place during this gap the information is probably from the ATs, esp. as the lack of a marriage licence entry in Cowper suggests the data is not from that source.

Not many 'Hawke(s)' events in Elham, but a Rychard Haukes was buryed there on 29 Apr 1584. Was he an infant son of George and Anne, or possibly George's son by a previous marriage?
