Name George COURT Relationship with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 9 Feb 1843 Chichester, Sussex, England - Born at "South Gate" in the parish of subdeanery
GRO ref: Court, George q1 1843 Chichester RD 7 292; GRO online index shows mother's maiden name as Tapner
Birth certificate for George Court Baptised 19 Mar 1843 St. Peter the Great Church, Chichester, Sussex, England - SFHG transcription, viewed 22 Feb 2012
George, son of Charles and Frances, Charles occ servant, abode Southgate
Gender Male Education 1851 Scholar Residence 1861 21, Walderton Street, Stoughton, Sussex, England - Lodging with George Wrapson (ag lab) and his wife and son, one of 2 households at the address (the other was a family of 7)
Occupation 1861 Gardener's labourer - gardener, resident Kimmerby(sp?), Ireland at time of marr,
Kensington (1871) then the Brentford area;
"gentleman's gardener" on dth cert
Occupation 1864 Kimmerby(?), Ireland Gardener - At time of marr (on cert.)
Residence 1866 Southgate, Chichester, Sussex, England - From the PR entry when his son George was baptised
Occupation Between 1867 and 1886 Westfield Market Garden, Ealing, Middlesex, England - (the date here refers to sometime between these dates, not the whole of this period)
George worked at this Market Garden according to his granddaughter, Ivy Hambling, although she did not know him personally (he died about 17 years before she was born) so she can only have been remembering being told this.
Assuming it is correct he seems to have found different employment before he died, but that is certainly feasible; although he died quite young he was in the London area for nearly 20 years before his death.
Moved 1868 Fulham, London, England From Sussex to the London area - His second son was born in Sussex in June but baptised in Hammersmith in October 1868, but with the abode shown as Fulham, suggesting George and his family moved between these two dates.
Residence 1871 5, Providence Terrace, Kensington, London, England - At the time of the census (2 / 3 April), also when his son Harry was baptised in the same year (2 May), when the place was given as Earls Court rather than Kensington.
Another family (4 people) were also living in the same house.
Occupation 1871 Kensington, London, England Gardener - Then the Brentford area;
"gentleman's gardener" on dth cert
Residence 1881 5, Angel Yard, Brentford End, Isleworth, Middlesex, England - With his wife, 5 children and a lodger
Occupation 1881 (possibly), Syon Park, Brentford, Middlesex, England Gardener - George's home at the time of the 1881 census was 5 Angel Yard, Brentford End. There were gardeners living at other houses in Angel Yard and the following entry was the gardener's house at Sion (Syon) Park. Did George (also) work there?
Died 17 May 1886 2, Enfield Road, Brentford, Middlesex, England Cause: Died of Phthisis - GRO ref: Court, George q2 1886 aged 43 Brentford RD 3a 52
I imagine the place he died was the family home at the time.
