Died 1 Feb 1850  Lenham, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    Cause: Bronchorrhea
    • From the censuses Mary appears to have died between 1841 (when with her husband Isaac) and 1851 (by which time Isaac was a widower).
Although three Mary Boormans (plus a Mary Elizabeth Boorman) died in Hollingbourn RD between 1842 and 1850, the GRO online index having ages shows that only one could possibly be this Mary:
GRO ref: BOORMAN, Mary q1 1850 Hollingbourn RD 5 211; GRO online index shows age at death as 63
Actual date, place and cause from her death registration (GRO register entry). This appears to show cause as something like 'Bronchorhiea'; 'Bronchorrhea' seems the closest word that makes sense.
Buried 11 Feb 1850  St. John the Baptist Church, Bredgar, Kent, England See the place on a map and other information about it - if available (many more will be in time); also all individuals with events at this location
    • From KFHS transcribed data (CD 19) - shows Mary Boorman, aged 63, abode Lenham.
In his will her husband expressed a wish to be buried in Bredgar (which he was) and for an inscription added to a stone and repair of railings already present, presumably for Mary.
There is no record of a grave for Isaac and Mary in the record of Bredgar graves on CD 39 (recorded by Helen Allinson in 1994), so unless it one of the graves then inaccessible due to brambles it probably does not survive.

GOATHAM,   d. Yes, date unknown  (6 x Great Grandfather)
Mary HARBULT,   b. Est 1736,   d. Yes, date unknown  (Grandmother)
    Notes
    • A Mary, prob this one, was a witness (signed her name) to the wedding of Edward Boorman to Charlotte Stone(?) in Lenham 8 Jan 1820; also to the wedding of Richard Hales to Sarah Wells, 4 Jan 1813 in Lenham (made her mark) (both times the other signatory was Isaac Boorman, who made his mark).
(Info from KFHS CD 16 - Vol 4)

It seems reasonable to suppose that the Mary Goatham who had an illegitimate dau baptised in Lenham, the Mary who witnessed marriages with Isaac Boorman in Lenham and the Mary who eventually married Isaac and was with him in Lenham in 1841 is the same Mary. Mary's age was recorded as 52 on 6 Jun 1841, suggesting she was born 1788 or 1789, close enough to 1786 to seem to confirm my belief it was this Mary. Except I now find the marriage entry shows her as a widow! Given that the marriage took place in Maidstone where presumably Mary and Isaac were not known, Mary could have passed herself off as a widow - to explain her dau Rebecca?

If she were a widow it could explain why she did not marry Isaac until 1829 - she may have separated from her husband but could not have remarried until he died - which he may have in 1829. But in 1806 her daughter was described as "baseborn". This would imply that Mary was single or, I think, a widow of more than 9 months when Rebecca was born.

But I haven't come across any Mary born close to 1788/9 who married a Goatham (apart from one in London, who seems clearly to have married a Devon Gotham). The closest Kent Marys I'm aware of who married Goathams were born about 1765 and 1817!
