Actual date given in baptism register as 18 Sept 1843. The date of birth was not generally entered in this register and was no doubt because the baptism was late. However, this entry was immediately after that is his brother Joseph, baptised the same day. The registration of both suggests the date was entered by the wrong brother.

How did William from Devon and Sarah from Rutland meet? There is probably a clue in the 1871 census entry for William's parents. The next entry in the census, in Coryton Devon, was a 43 year old gamekeeper Zachariah Biddle and his family. Zachariah was, like Sarah, born in Rutland; I have yet to look for a link between them but they may well have been siblings.
