Another Burglary at the Plymouth Co-operative Stores
    (Special report.)
    • At the Devon Assizes, last winter, a plasterer, named Vogwell, was indicted for stealing £4 worth of pence from the Plymouth Co-operative Stores. The prisoner was acquitted on that occasion, the identification of the money not being established. At the Plymouth Guildhall, yesterday, the same person was brought up, charged with a similar offence, on Wednesday night. It appeared from the evidenced adduced, that James Melbourne, the prisoner's father-in-law, is employed as storekeeper at the bakery. About nine o'clock on the evening in question he left the premises, everything being secure. On the following morning, Melbourne's desk was found to have been broken open, and about 5s. worth of coppers extracted. As soon as the information was given to Mr. Melbourne, he went to the prisoner's room (both parties living in the same house), and in the prisoner's coat he found a pocket-handkerchief, containing 5s. 10½d. When asked where he got the money from, he made no reply, but left the house. He was subsequently apprehended, and in answer to the charge, stated he had been gambling all the day on Tuesday, and had won the money. The case, at the request of the Chief-Constable, was adjourned for a week, in order that further inquiries might be made.
