  	A William Vogwell, carpenter of Plymouth, aged 33 was drowned when the barque Gettysburg was wrecked in 1889. "Shipwright of Devonport" might be a more accurate description for this William, but it's close enough, and the only other William born at a similar time was William Jonas James Vogwill, a plasterer.

  	Is this the right marriage? Looking for the marriage of a John VOGWELL to a Mary Ann, with first known child born 1851, the most likely looks to be q1 1851 John Heals VOGWELL to Mary Ann Mountjoy. BUT John Heals VOGWILL died 1893 aged 70 i.e. suggests born 1822/3, whereas the censuses suggest he was born about 1818. (A better match on age at death is a John VOGWILL d q4 1892 aged 73, but no marriage found to match this.) HOWEVER, looking at baptisms there was a John Hele VOGWILL bapt 1817 so it look like the age at death registration was wrong. Hence I am confident this is the right marriage.   	No clear marriage for this couple. A William Vogwill married Elizabeth Hicks or Mary Ethel Collacott in Tavistock RD in 1885. There is no mention of Elizabeth having middle name Ann and I am not aware of William having a link with the Tavistock RD area that might have led to his bride being from there. However, it is closest I've found: GRO ref: HICKS, Elizabeth TO Vogwill, William q3 1885 Tavistock RD 5b 618 (I did check Scotland as William had worked there but no record of a Vogw*ll marriage until after 1890) Weight is added to this being the right marriage by Jessie. Jessie seems to have been a child of the William Vogwill / Elizabeth Hicks marriage and is not with parents in 1891 or 1901 suggesting they could well have died.
