John Tanner NICHOALS
Set As Default Person -
Name John Tanner NICHOALS Relationship
with Teresa Ann GOATHAM Born 1789 Baptised 2 Aug 1789 St. Saviour’s Church, Dartmouth, Devon, England
Gender Male Died Abt 17 Mar 1790 (probably), Dartmouth, Devon, England
- John probably died before his parents called another son John, which probably means before early 1791. A John Nichoals was buried in Slapton 20 Feb 1790; John and Lydia's children up to Sarah bapt in 1796 were baptised in Dartmouth, suggesting the family were living there - only from the baptism of their third son John in 1799 were they baptised in Slapton but as Lydia came from Slapton they had links so could have had a son buried there when living in Dartmouth. In deed, their second son John seems to have been baptised there before they were living there - in 1795.

- The register is one that shows a combined entry for the banns and the marriage. In the section for the banns the brides name is given as Ally Pepperel - Lydia's mother's name! It is correctly Lydia both times in the marriage section.
The witnesses were Samuel Pepperell, probably either Lydia's father or first cousin with the name (other young people were very often witnesses) and Philip Mortimore, presumably Parish Clerk.
