Samuel was to be an appretice till he was 21, and John Gill was paid £1 for taking him.

Family Prudence PALMER, bap. 25 Dec 1809, St. Andrew’s Church, Buckland Monachorum, Devon, England

(Age ~ 54 years) Married 14 Oct 1829 St. Andrew’s Church, Plymouth, Devon, England
- From PR entry (image on FMP, viewed May 2013)
Samuel Cornelius and Prudence Palmer, both of the parish, married by banns, by John Hatchard, Vicar. Samuel and Prudence made their marks; witnesses Wm Worthley and James Boulter both signed.
I believe the marriage was this Prudence because the censuses show a Prudence Cornelius resident in Lamerton (1841-1861), born Buckland Monachorum, shown as a widow in 1851 and 1861. The only discrepancy is that Prudence regularly gives an age consistent with a birth in 1812/3 rather than 1809.
No children with Prudence on any census; any born after Samuel and Prudence married would be under 12 at the time of the 1841 census, but could have died in infancy OR been parish apprentices in 1841, but there are no others in Lamerton PRs, nor in any other transcriptions on FMP (as at 9 Apr 2014 - covers the CoE Parishes in the Plymouth area, where Samuel and Prudence married).
Samuel was probably also a parish apprentice like Prudence (given that his sister was born in the Poor House); although a few years older than her he would probably have been an apprentice until the age of 21 i.e. until 1825. With Prudence having been an apprentice from 1820 it could have been this that led them to meet, if they were on the same or neighbouring farms.
